Hong Day 3 - Explore The Food & The Peak

Hong Kong Day 3,

We spent most time on travelling to the peak and exploring the food. Many people had recommended different Hong Kong Cafe for us to try and we tried to visit as many as we can within a day!

For breakfast/brunch, we decided to try out Tsui Wah Restaurant as many recommended us to visit and try. So, we visited the outlet at Portland road, it took about 10 to 15 minutes for us to walk from hotel to Tsui Wah. Tsui Wah have lots of outlet in Hong Kong, you can always google the one nearer to your side!

The day we visit happen to be on Sunday and there is a 5 to 10 minutes queue in front of us, comparing in Singapore or even other place I think it is consider fast? The only thing you need to remember is that in Hong Kong cafe you always share table with people and that explain the queue move faster than usual. Especially if you travel in 2, be prepared to share table. (Bound to have some awkward moments)

Signature Milk Tea, HKD$19

Curry Beef Brisket, HKD$67 (Est $11 Sgd)

Our first try on beef brisket and surprisingly it tastes pretty good, it's tender and taste like normal beef. You couldn’t really feel the different in it if they didn’t tell you it is beef brisket.

Crispy Bun with Condensed Milk, HKD18 (Est $3.50sgd)

You got to eat this while it is hot, if not the crispy bun will turn hard. The taste is exactly like spreading butter and condensed milk on your usual bread, in my opinion this can be done at home too.

Macaroni Soup with Luncheon Meat, Ham & Egg, HKD47 (Est $8 sgd)

Chicken soup with Macaroni and toppings, average taste and personally I feel all the luncheon meat in Hong Kong taste a little weird as compare to Singapore. I prefer Australia Milk Company's Macaroni!

Address:

G/F, 244 Portland St., Mong Kok. Nearest MTR: Mong Kok

After breakfast, we decided to check out The Peak. We took MTR from MongKok to Central MTR, it took 10 minutes to walk from MTR to Peak Tram Terminal. Follow the map below and you can find your way!

We bought round trip ticket for The Peak Tram & Sky Terrace 428, which cost HKD$99 per pax. (Estimate $16 plus per pax) Other than taking the peak tram, you can choose to walk up to the top if you don't mind the long distance and steep route!

While queuing for our Peak tram we came by really bad experience, tourist pushing here and there just to get up of the tram. We would strongly encourage for people who are planning to visit, try to avoid weekend.

Peak tram took about 5 minutes to reach the top, a pretty scary ride as it is really steep and coming down is even worst ,but the view is pretty good yeah!

Reaching the Sky Terrace 428, you get overview of Hong Kong buildings. It's beautiful but quite a tiring journey up here for this view. Other than morning view you can also visit this place during evening, I think it might look better? Due to overcrowded situation, we only spent an hour here and decided to go back down before it get really crowded again.

In our opinion it seems a little not worth it, I would rather visit Stars of Avenue where it looks much more beautiful? Hmm.

Right after The Peak, we travel down to Jordan MTR and walk to Australia Dairy Co. This is highly rave by many and we decided to give it a try. We went about 4pm in the afternoon therefore there is not much queue for us, so if you are lazy to queue you know what to do yeah!

Scramble Egg Toast, HKD$20-$25 (Estimate $3.50-$4 sgd) A little expensive but it tastes really good, I really love the soft and lightly salted scramble egg with toast. Highly recommended to order this!

Macaroni with Ham & Egg, HKD$35 (Estimate $6sgd) Chicken soup with Macaroni, Ham & Egg, for this pricing I think it is pretty acceptable. Soup taste better than what I have in Tsui Hwa and overall feel is pretty good, worth trying but if it is long queue then I will never bother to do it.

Disclaimer: Even though the food is pretty good, but the services is pretty bad. You are required to share table, order fast, eat fast and pay bill fast. Unlike Singapore you can take years to choose your orders if you ever slowdown in the cafe they would give you the deadly stare! Be prepared!

And next we have Hui Lau Shan for dessert,

Mango Pudding, Peanut Ice Cream Cube & Mango Ball Combo, HKD$77. (Estimate $13sgd)

They are always good, just by ordering the Mango Ball Combo for sharing will make your day. You can see them everywhere, so don't worry about finding them in Hong Kong!

Address:

43 Parkes St, Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong

Estimate at 8.30pm we gotten a recommendation from Fatty's friend to try Kim Wah Restaurant in Hong Kong, so we decided to have supper over there as we had dinner at 4pm. After we finish the food we would say this is probably one of the best restaurant/cafe we tried over the three days!

Pork Cube Fried Noodle, HKD$44 (Estimate $7.50sgd)

This is likely spicy pork cube and fried Maggie noodle but just taste amazing. It's extremely down to earth food and cookable at home too. Right after we fly back from Hong Kong I tried cooking it at home too, but of course taste will never reach their standard la hor!

Pork Chop Egg Noodle, HKD$31(Estimate $5.20 sgd)

The soup is amazing, extremely flavorful and noodle texture is well controlled. Even though it is Maggie noodle, but it is so amazing and delicious!

Lastly, Pineapple Bun with Butter HKD$10 (If i didn't remember wrongly, estimate $2sgd)

This is pretty good but to me it is not good enough, the top layer crust drops off too easily as compare to the other one I tried. But for this price it is consider good I guess.

Overall, we love Kim Wah the most as compare to all the other cafe we tried, if you ever visit Hong Kong, try this cafe and share with me your thoughts!
