Amazingly Good & Affordable - Nuevo Cafe

The hidden gem in the east, this is really good and affordable and definitely a cafe that we will be back again. Nuevo Cafe serves up food with a taste of European Cuisine with a chic touch of Japanese, all-day breakfast, brunch and rice bowls can be all found in their menu.

With the world a chic touch of Japanese, the first thing that came into everyone's mind will be "Surely damn expensive right, sounds so atas"? Butttttt~ happy to share they are actually damn affordable, rice bowl is at $8.50 ONLY! NOTHING TO HIAM LA (*Nothing to be fussy about huh)

Nuevo cafe is actually located right beside a commercial kitchen equipment showroom "Kitchen Hub", the entire showroom and cafe is actually linked. All their food was prepared through the showroom kitchen too, other than eating you can also peep on all those high end & quality kitchenware.

High end coffee machine, cakes/pastries glass display shelf and wooden bench tables, entire cafe is decorated in simple yet classy way, estimate to be able to fit 40 pax at one go during busy hours.

Let's go check out their food together:

Chicken Katsu Curry With Sous Vide Egg, SGD $8.50

Deep fried chicken thigh in Japanese curry with sous vide egg on premium Japanese white rice, topped with Japanese pickles, sesame sprinkle and roasted nori. Deep fried chicken thigh is extremely crispy on the outer layer and juicy internally, marination wise is definitely not the best as it is a little bland, the curry is the one that bring entire dish to another level. What surprise me is that despite chicken thigh being covered with Japanese Curry the outer skin is still extremely crispy, definitely is a well controlled temperature of frying and good batter!

Portion wise it is slightly small for people who eat a lot, to me it is a just nice portion.

To be honest, with such pricing I don't mind having it daily. So affordable and yet close to marvellous!

Yakiniku Beef Striploin With Sous Vide Egg, SGD $8.50

Grilled yakiniku beef with a sous vide egg on premium Japanese white rice and topped with other Japanese style as garnish.

The Yakiniku beef cook level is more towards medium rare, the taste is fantastic for this pricing.

There is a strong grill/charcoal burn smell and taste in the beef, it makes me feel like high end Japanese buffet grilled beef but at a some good pricing. This is highly recommended, for less than $10 rice bowl this is definitely the first. *Thumbs up & Keep It Up*

Shoestring Fries, SGD $8.00

Lightly salted fries with a choice of special in-house sauce (Mentaiko, Truffle, Wasabi or Maple Mayo Dip), our pick was Wasabi dip with fries.

As this is highly recommended by the staff so we decided to go for a try.

Shoestring fries is pretty ordinary, it feels like frozen fries being fried but topped with a special in-house sauce to make it stand out from other cafes. Wasabi dip is better than what I expected.

I was expecting it to be heavy and thick in Mayo to reduce the chocking feeling of Wasabi, however it is pretty light and unique, but a little sick after constantly eating it. Worth trying, fatty pretty like the taste of it but probably not for me. (Side Note: I am never a fan of Wasabi)

Coffee wise, they invested in really good coffee machines but probably I think it is pretty average or maybe I picked the wrong choice of drink. However Fatty's Ice Hazelnut coffee was good, strong smell and taste of Hazelnut, every mouth of it reminds me of Nutella and that is how rich the hazelnut taste it. Comparing drinks to food, they are definitely much more specialised in food, drinks it still pretty average. If you really keen, try their Iced Hazelnut at SGD $5.50!

Other than rice bowl, sides and coffee, Nuevo do serve pastries, cakes and western food like fish and chips and so. I think this is really a good place for weekend brunch, looking forward to try their brunch the next time.
