[FOOD] Chef In Box

VENDING MACHINE + HOT MEALS = CHEF IN BOX

If you have followed the news, there is this popular trend of Chef in Box, which basically vending machines offering hot meals for 24 hours. You can get food as and when you like/hungry.

This whole article was on Straits Time

So out of curiosity, I have decided to make a trip down just to do a full real review for everyone who wanted to try but pretty lazy to head down.

Location:

320C Anchorvale Dr, Singapore 543320

Nearest MRT: Sengkang MRT Walk 7 minutes from MRT Exit C

OR Bus 372 and NR6, Walk 2 mins from bus stop B67351

There are a total of 2 main course vending machine, Local Delight & Western Delight

Price ranges from $3 - $5 for main course

Step 1: Choose your order from the menu page

**BECAUSE OF HIGH DEMAND, EACH CUSTOMER CAN ONLY ORDER 2 BENTO AT ONE GO.**

Step 2: Pay for your meal, either by Cash or Nets Flash Pay.

Step 3: Choose you want them to warm up for you or frozen(Takeaway)

Step 4: Collect your cutlery

Step 5: TADAAA, 180 Seconds and your food is ready. :)

What about desserts? Hmm.

Yes, they do have 24 hours desserts machine too. Which serve drinks, chocolates, tidbits, brownies, cakes and many more..

In overall trip, we ordered Seafood Horfun SGD$4 & Ikan Goreng with Sambal Goreng Rice SGD$4.50(Local Delights) & Salted Egg Yolk Shrimp Pasta SGD$5

Dessert: Mini Madeleines SGD$2.50

OVERALL EXPERIENCE,

Queue/Waiting time: 30 - 60 Minutes Each dish will take 2 - 4 minutes to prepare.

Price: SGD $3 - $5

The pricing at chef in box is just like 7-11 kind of food, which they also range about $3 - $8 depending on what you choose.

Taste:

Seafood Horfun - 3/5

The taste was okay, but for the price of $4, I think I could pay Zichar stall for whole packet of food and it should taste way better, however if you mean you are hungry in the middle of the night where all zichar store are close, I think this is pretty good enough.

Ikan Goreng + Sambal - 3.5/5

The sambal taste good, it is the first time having sambal bento, I think this is the recommended dish compare to Seafood Horfun, just that the rice is a little harder, but you can't expect 100% from a vending machine right. So overall, I think this is pretty good. *thumbsup*

Salted Egg Yolk Pasta With Shrimps - 2.5/5

Hmm, the smell was really good, however taste was a little too eggy. Too much of salted egg inside and making the pasta super dry and clumpy. Shrimp was pretty fresh for this pricing, I like the prawns.

My opinion:

To be honest, if I am down with no choice I don't mind choosing this, however if there is a comparison like 7-11, i think i might choose 7-11 over them. Of course 7-11 don't have as much menu as they do, but the food is pretty good and definitely hotter than what Chef in box can serve. It's worth a try/experience but I don't think i will try it the second time.

Suggestion: I find them not environment friendly because every single meal they sell there is disposal cutlery, probably they should work on it and they need to maintain machine system really well, if system down they will face a lot of issues. Food that are out of stock should be displayed on TV screen to avoid disappointment from customer.

That probably sum it up my experience with Chef In Box.
